Let’s hear it for the B173 Quad, the latest 1073-style preamp from Black Lion Audio. The B173 Quad combines a modern concept with vintage character in a 2U housing with features that will satisfy even the most demanding sound engineer. The redesigned gain stage with higher signal-to-noise ratio delivers a clear and distortion-free tone, while the Cinemag input and output transformers provide silky warmth. Two front-panel DI inputs give guitars, keyboards and synths a harmonically enriched sound, while the saturation can be perfectly controlled using the gridded input pots and variable output pots. Output metering on all channels, parallel XLR/TRS outputs and an interference-suppressed external power supply round off the overall picture.
